Western, 78 min, color
In the 1830's beaver
trapper Flint Mitchell and other white men hunt and trap in the then unnamed
territories of Montana and Idaho. Flint marries a Blackfoot woman as a way to
gain entrance into her people's rich lands, but finds she means more to him than
a ticket to good beaver habitat.
Clark Gable plays a mountain man whose
indian wife (Maria Elena Marques)
runs away to her tribe during a war between her tribe and Gable's settlers.
Riding into the hostile village alone except for an old cajun trapper who speaks
the language, Gable takes his wife across his lap and a ministers one of the
great spankings in Western history to her in front of her father, the Chief, and
the whole tribe. This persuades the Chief that the settlers aren't too civilized
to be honorable, he makes peace, and they all have a big party
